  • What to expect on your first visit

For new pet owners or clients, thinking about that first appointment can be somewhat uncertain and create unnecessary stress. For this reason, we’ve provided a general overview of what to expect during your first visit. We also encourage you to contact us with any additional questions you may have.

    Plan Ahead

To ensure the safety of all patients, we recommend you take extra care when bringing your cat or dog into a new environment. Some animals can be intimidating or aggressive toward others they don’t know, so it’s best to keep your pet in a carrier or on a leash while in the waiting room. If possible, schedule your first appointment during a time when our hospital is less crowded to avoid potential confrontations. If you have an extremely shy or more aggressive pet, feel free to discuss your concerns with us. We’re happy to advise you on appropriate behavior management techniques, as well as basic training practices.

    What to Bring

Please bring any health records or documents from previous care providers to your first appointment with us. Ideally, this outlines the vaccines your pet has received, parasite treatments, past surgical procedures, and other relevant medical information. We also ask that every owner complete the client form available on our website.

    The First Exam

Every exam we perform is gentle and thorough. We will weigh and examine your pet, assessing the condition of the skin, coat, eyes, ears, heart, lungs, and teeth. During the first visit, we will initiate pet health protocols regarding vaccines and parasite prevention and discuss spaying/neutering if this has not yet been done. We will also review the benefits of microchipping.

As always, we encourage you to ask questions about your pet’s health. As your trusted team of veterinary professionals, we’re here to listen and to advise you throughout the life of your beloved companion.
