Our highly trained staff of Veterinary Technicians, as well as Technician Assistants, Client Service Providers, Kennel Attendants and Groomers continually strive to provide excellent customer service and veterinary care at all times. Our staff routinely participates in continuing education, so we can remain up to date in our ever changing industry!
Dr. Brunner was raised in the small town of Brillion, Wisconsin, he attended Auburn University and earned a B.S in biology before pursuing his degree in Veterinary Medicine, graduating from Auburn in 1994. He practiced medicine in a mixed animal practice in Wisconsin until he purchased Southlake Animal Hospital in October of 1996. In 1999 he built Weatherly Animal Hospital, with the goal of providing the highest quality veterinary care in the area. In July of 2010, Dr. Brunner formed a corporation named Alabama Veterinary Management Services, P.C. to oversee the daily operations of these locations. Dr. Brunner and his wife Jennifer have 3 children, and 2 grandsons. Currently they have 2 feline companions at home, and a mastiff mix.
Kathy Toomey grew up in Jackson, Mississippi and received a B. S. in Biology from the University of Mississippi. She then attended Veterinary School at Louisiana State University and graduated in 2004. Dr. Toomey has practiced small animal medicine since that time and worked in Atlanta then coastal South Carolina before settling down in Birmingham in 2007. She and her husband, James, met in vet school and enjoy staying busy with their three young daughters, two beagles, and one cat.
Robert Phillips has been a groomer at Weatherly Animal Hospital for the past 8 years. Phillips received specialty grooming training under top groomers in Atlanta, and we have been fortunate to have him make Weatherly one of his home grooming bases. He is patient and calm with the animals, and takes great pride in his work, but also in making sure the cats and dogs come away from the grooming experience happy and looking beautiful.
Ashley is an unlicensed assistant at Weatherly. She has been in the veterinary field for over 18 years. She is married and has a son. She has a great compassion for the animals. Her favorite part about her job is getting to play with the pit bulls and the “spicy” cats we get to see.
Nicole is an unlicensed assistant/receptionist at Weatherly. She has been in the veterinary field for over 13 years. She is married. She has a wonderful way with the animals and clients. Her favorite part about her job is getting to interact with both clients and their fur babies.
Jill is the receptionist at Weatherly. She has spent over 20 years in the veterinary field. She enjoys meeting the clients and developing a relationship built on trust and showing them how much she genuinely cares about their fur baby. She always has a friendly smile, and loves to interact with both the animals and clients
